Rigamagicien:
It strikes me that the best strategy is 42.Rg1 to make sure their b-pawn does not queen, and to keep their king from making its way over to the h-file where it may be able to stop our passed h-pawn from advancing. Dutch Super GM Jan Timman pursued a similar strategy in the game I posted on our 40th move (Click on Archive and then 40.Kg2 to see the game). Also in his book Comprehensive Chess Endings 2 Rook versus Minor Pieces, endgame guru Yuri Averbakh says that we should bring our king over to stop their pawns first before pushing our h-pawn to force them to give up their bishop.

Darth-Bunny:
I agree with 42.Rg1. I want to get our king to c2 to block their their two passed pawns as well as freeing our rook. Then we can push our h pawn up and maybe they will trade it for their bishop.

hic2482w:
I voted Rg1, but would we answer Bd4? with Rh1 just asking

Rigamagicien:
hic2482w, I think since one of our main goals is to keep their king away from the h-file, we should just play 42.Rg1 Bd4 43.Rf1 intending Ke4.

FrancisUrquhart:
What about Re7, to get the Rook on the 3rd rank and stop the pawn on the 4th instead of the 2nd.

Darth-Bunny:
King on c2 solves the passed pawn issue

Rigamagicien:
Francis, 42.Re7 is certainly an interesting idea, but it does allow them to play 42.Bf6 holding back our h-pawn, and then after we go 43.Re3, we can no longer advance our king to the centre without allowing their king to cross over to the kingside. After 42.Rg1 Bf6 on the other hand, we have 43.Rb1 Be7 and then can advance our king straight up the board. As the Ivanchuk-Shirov game showed, if we can get our king way up the board, the win is fairly easy.

bbrout:
Rg1. Continue the line.

Rigamagicien:
It's hard to predict how they will respond, but one line we could try is something like:
42. Rg1 b3 43. h4 Kd7 44. Ke4 Ke6 45. h5 c5 46. Kd3 Bd4 47. Rf1 Kd5 48. Rf5+ Ke6 49. Rf4 Ke5 50. Rf8 Kd5 51. Rd8+ Ke6 52. h6 Bf6 53. Rg8 Kd5 54. Rc8 c4+ 55. Rxc4

bbrout:
Another way is to keep pushing our pawn under the care of our king and force them to sac the bish. There are many ways this could go.

Rigamagicien:
They have a united pawn duo, which our rook cannot stop by itself, so I think we need to use our king to stop their pawns, and our rook to shepherd our h-pawn home.

bbrout:
True Riga. In this situation, the more we push our pawn the more they are forced to sac. Their king is still a long ways off. At d1 our rook blocks the advance of the king and is safe on a white square. But as you say, we shall see how this turns out.

Breizatao:

Michael2jb:
Our R has the b1 square covered (preventing their pawn from Queening so I figure we start moving our pawn up the board. h4 is my choice of moves here. Next, our K can start moving up the board or go after their pawn (depending on how they respond).

Rigamagicien:
Yeah, 43.h4. I agree completely with your comments, Michael. They are threatening to play ...Bf6, so I think we can afford a move to slip our pawn a bit further forward. Then, as you say, we bring our king up to chase their bishop, and then go after their pawns with it. It's looking good so far, although it might take a bit of fancy footwork to get everything into place.

Bbrout:
h4 is the move here. It "splits their bishop. May I suggest we use our king to hem in their king and protect our pawn. Perhaps 44.Ke4 may be in order depending on what they do with their bish. If they move the king perhaps we can get them to waste moves with attacking the bish. This is just to count moves here .
43. h4 Kd8 44. Kg4 Ke8 45. Kf5 Bd4 46. Rb1 b2 47. Kg6 Kf8 48. Kh7 Bf6 49. h5 Bg7 50. Rf1+

Rigamagicien:
Bruce, as I believe I mentioned last turn, our rook will not be able to stop their pawns, so we will need to use our king. 43. h4 Kd7! 44. Kg4? Ke6 45. Kg5? c5 46. Rb1 c4 47. Kg6 b2 48. h5 c3 49. h6 c2
So far it looks like everyone likes 43.h4. You can wait for Schachgeek, mistermax, k337lee and the others to post if you'll have time to check in again, and vote tomorrow.

Player03:
shall we advance our "h" pawn furthur down the board or should we play some other prepatory king or rook move?

k337lee:
Is there a preference between Ke4 and h5? I don't see how it matters, but Riga thinks deep.

Rigamagician:
k337lee has hit the nail on the head. I would like to argue that 44.Ke4 Ke6 45.h5 is way better than 44.h5 Ke6 45.Ke4, but I am not sure I could pull it off. 44.Ke4 is more forcing, and gives them the chance to blunder with 44.Bh8, but other than that, the two lines look very similar indeed.

Ezr611:
Ok, I guess we would like to give them the option of blundering so 44.Ke4 it is.

PawnAvalanche:
Let's blunder. and hope. I mean, let's hope, and blunder. I mean, let's hope they blunder.

Darth-Bunny:
44.Ke4 does get our king closer to their pawns.
